Nanoplasty is one of the latest hair treatments which has been creating a buzz after keratin treatment and hair botox treatment.
What is nanoplasty and is nanoplasty treatment safe for hair?
As a dermatologist and trichologist in Kochi, i am being asked this question quite often nowadays.
Nanoplasty involves the use of a product containing amino acids and collagen to coat the hair shafts so as to provide nourishment and strength to the hair shafts. The product that is applied to the hair is free from formaldehyde.
Keratin treatment, which is still very popular, uses products containing formaldehyde that are not only harmful to the hair shafts but also create nasty fumes which can be toxic when inhaled. In nanoplasty, the product is supposed to be free from formaldehyde.
However, after the product is applied, heat is applied in the form of straighteners to seal the product inside the cuticles.
Hence, though nanoplasty is safer than keratin in terms of the product used, the use of high heat makes me question the safety of the procedure. High temperature can damage the hair cuticles leading hair breakage, brittle hair and frayed ends.
What is the verdict?
As a Dermatologist and Trichologist in Kochi, I see that a lot of men and women alike are keen to try this new procedure.
My verdict is that nanoplasty is a safer option compared to keratin treatment. However, it is not completely safe from damage as heat is involved in the procedure.
